Popular Fishing Spots in Goa

Charles Waterman says most of the world is covered by water. A fisherman's job is simple: Pick out the best parts. As much as we love fishing, we need to find the best places to do so. Goa has a lot of water bodies, some fresh some saline. Both are known to be natural habitats for different species of fish. There are popular fishing places in Goa which are frequented by many people.

Before we step into the fishing game, we should have the right fishing equipment so that no catch can escape from our hands. We have to keep in mind what kind of fish we want to catch and the other possible catches, size of the fish, type of lures, we should also carry an extra set of lines, so if one gets cut then we can replace it.

One of the popular locations for fishing in the state is the beautiful Terekhol River. This river has beautiful deep blue waters. There is a lot that the waters have to offer in terms of big and small fish. You can get snappers, groupers and even threadfin salmons in these waters. Afternoons are ideal for fishing in this river.

The Reis Magos jetty in North Goa is another popular fishing destination. Decked with several rocks, one can see anglers casting their lines from the rocks itself. November to January are the popular fishing months with a good catch of barramundi and snappers.

The waters near Fort Aguada are also a good place for fishing. The waters here have a greenish blue tint. November and December are ideal months for fishing and one can get big groupers, snappers, and barramundi

These will help you catch a large variety of fish like rockfish, stingray, mackerels, and groupers.

If you are into crab catching go to Mobor beach or Orlim in South Goa. Set up crab traps at dawn and dusk and catch the crabs.

A very familiar sight for most passer-by’s will be seeing people fishing off the Mandovi and Zuari bridge in the afternoons and late nights.
